Polaroid vs Digital

Hey everyone, not sure if this is a good place for discussion (vs class or moodle, etc) but I read the Buse Polaroid article for class and wanted to pose a few questions.  It is regrettable that digital cameras and digital images bankrupted the original Polaroid and there's no denying that a physical photo and a digital photo have different sensations and uses.  But I think digital got a bit of a bad rap in the article and that digital and physical images at an archive should be used in tandem with each other, not as a choice for one or the other.

Should archives make physical copies of digital images to help back up a computer malfunction?  Should all physical photographs be scanned and saved digitally?  Do any of you have work experience with this?  Do you prefer physical or digital images and why?
Thanks!

  1. You make a good point, although the gifs are distracting! Let's talk about this in class.
